Growing Healthy:  The Fruitful Vine Garden

Located on the grounds of Westview Church in Waukee, The Fruitful Vine Garden was started in 2009 with the goal of providing fresh produce to clients of the WACS Food Pantry. The garden is a collaborative effort of volunteers, including individuals, families, community groups, and members of the Dallas County Master Gardeners Association. We take pride in growing a variety of chemical-free produce onsite.

  • Tomatoes
  • Peppers
  • Cantaloupe
  • Watermelon
  • Eggplant
  • Pumpkins
  • Beets
  • Beans
  • Turnips
  • Cucumbers

How to Receive Assistance

During the growing season, clients are eligible to visit the garden once a week to receive a “share” of fresh produce based on family size and availability. Before going to the Community Garden, clients must first check-in at the Food Pantry.

Garden Volunteers

The community garden is entirely maintained by volunteers. All types of volunteers are needed, and serving in the garden is a great way to give back. You can “adopt” a section of the garden to maintain or occasionally come out and water the plants. Please consider signing up to get involved.
